Beekeeping 101 - Extended Class

Beekeeping Class Day - Beekeeping 101
50.00

This is the place to start! We’ll cover all of the basics you need to know before deciding to get your first hive, plus everything you’ll want to know before you bring your bees home.

Topics will include:

An introduction to honeybee colonies. We’ll spend some time discussing who lives in the colony, the various jobs they perform, how they adapt to the seasons, and what a colony requires in order to thrive.

An overview of backyard beekeeping. We’ll talk about the cost, the time commitment, the supplies, the set-up, and the inevitable potential for stings.

Nucleus colony installation. Bringing home your first box full of bees can be intimidating. We want to make sure you are all set up and feeling confident about the process, so we’ll go over it step by step.

Hive inspections. We know we are supposed to be inspecting our hives, but what the heck are we looking for? We’ll talk about the things we want to see, the things we don’t want to see, and share some tips on making the whole experience a good one for both you and the bees.

Instruction will run from 9 am - 12 pm, with pizza, drinks and time to chat and socialize until 1 pm.
