Beekeeping Seminar - Hive Inspection

Join us for a hands-on hive inspection class, right in our apiary at the garden center! We'll demonstrate our technique for inspecting a hive, from lighting your smoker to checking your suit for bees before taking it off, and all of the steps in between. We remember being overwhelmed by what we were seeing in the hive when we were new beekeepers, and we hope that we can help you to feel more confident and comfortable during your own hive inspections.

Together, we'll open up a hive and take a look at the inner workings of the colony. We'll point out honey and pollen stores, learn how to spot eggs and larva, check for queen cells, and hopefully even spot a queen. We'll also share our Hive Inspection Checklist that we use here in our apiary. We've found it to be a great tool for helping us to keep track of what goes on in our hives.

Because we will be opening active bee hives, proper beekeeping safety gear is a must to participate in this class. Minimally, you must have a beekeeping veil, though we always recommend that you wear as much gear as you need to feel comfortable.

Due to the hands-on nature of the class, space is extremely limited and we do require advance registration.

Class Fee $25/person
