Have you ever wondered what goes on inside a beehive? Do you think it might be interesting to keep your own honeybee hives someday?

We are so excited about this new opportunity we are offering for Summer of 2019. Introducing…the Junior Beekeeping Apprenticeship Program! Over the course of four weeks, you’ll learn about one of nature’s most fascinating creatures: the honeybee!

We’ll cover topics including:

  • honeybee biology (Who lives in a hive? What’s the queen’s job? Are there boy bees?)

  • pollination and honey production (Why are honeys different colors? Do they taste different?)

  • beekeeper tools and gear (What’s that smoker all about? Do I have to wear a bee suit?)

  • honeybees in nature (Where do “wild” bees live? Can we improve beehives to help bees?)

Here’s the really cool part...you’ll get to visit a natural beehive in a tree and see how gentle honeybees really are, then during our final meeting you’ll suit up and do a hive inspection to meet some of our honeybee colonies!
