Have you ever wondered what goes on inside a beehive? Do you think it might be interesting to keep your own honeybee hives someday?

We are so excited to continue this program for the Summer of 2022!

Over the course of four weeks, you’ll learn about one of nature’s most fascinating creatures: the honeybee!

We’ll cover topics including:

  • honeybee biology (Who lives in a hive? What’s the queen’s job? Are there boy bees?)

  • beekeeper tools and gear (What’s that smoker all about? Do I have to wear a bee suit?)

  • beehives (What’s in the box? Where do bees live in nature?)

  • harvesting honey and crafting stuff (How do we get the honey out of the hive? What can we make with beeswax?)

Here’s the really cool part...during our final meeting you’ll suit up and do a hive inspection to meet some of our honeybee colonies! This was absolutely the highlight of the program last time we ran it, and everyone was amazed at how gentle the bees actually were when we visited their hive. A close second favorite is the honey tasting, of course.

This program is designed for mature middle school-aged students. If you are interested in participating, please submit an application online by clicking the link below. Spaces are limited, and all applications must be submitted by May 31st, 2022 in order to be considered.
